New head of cargo at Emirates

Greg Johnson
Greg Johnson: Emirates SkyCargo's national cargo manager.

Emirates Airline has promoted NSW cargo manager Greg Johnson as its national cargo manager.

Mr Johnson joined Emirates SkyCargo when the airline launched services to Sydney eight years ago, and was responsible for establishing its cargo division at Australia’s international air freight hub.

The division has experienced significant expansion during that period, becoming Australia’s third biggest air freight carrier by total outbound cargo tonnage.

Mr Johnson said one of his challenges will be to ensure the service and product live up to the shifting logistics environment, securing the airline’s status in the Australian market.

“Australia, by virtue of history and geography, is a competitive trading nation. My role at Emirates SkyCargo is to offer logistics solutions across a whole gamut of industries, from perishable commodities to raw materials to manufactured products,” he said.

Vice president of Emirates Australia, Stephen Pearse, said: “Emirates SkyCargo has been the recipient of a multitude of Best Air Cargo Carrier awards over the years and, under Greg’s management, we are certain to achieve many future successes.”

Emirates has recently announced plans to increase services to Australia from 49 to 70 flights a week by the end of the 2009 financial year.
