Supply chain consulting firm GRA has announced the launch of ORion-PI, an internationally adopted supply chain optimisation tool, into the Australian market.
The ORion-PI program has been developed by the German firm Axxom Software AG, and is utilised by a range of global businesses including Adidas, BMW, DuPont, Avon, GlaxoSmithKline and Siemens.
GRA partner Carter McNabb said the introduction of the system is expected to boost the supply chain optimisation market in Australia, which has been lagging behind.
“GRA recognised the gap in the Australian market supply chain network optimisation tools. We went through an extensive global review process with 14 different vendors over a 12-month period in the search of the tool that would deliver the greatest benefit to our clients.”
Among the functions of ORion-PI are assessing the risks, feasibility and opportunities of supply chain strategies, determining the optimal network structure from a cost, profit and service perspective, simulating new supply chain models, performance auditing, and determining the option approach for responding to internal and external changes.
The application, with certified SAP interfaces, was recently used to redesign the supply chain of WLS, logistics service provider of McDonald’s Germany and Luxembourg.
Mr McNabb said the new toolset would provide businesses with an opportunity to achieve cost- and asset-efficient results in the face of economic downturn.
“Much of this technology is new to Australia, and it represents an opportunity for Australian companies to raise the performance bar further,” he said.
“In the current economic environment, every dollar counts.”
