Fresh approach from ThermoKing

ThermoKing says its T-Series offers lower life cycle costs, lower fuel consumption, cleaner and quieter operation, unmatched performance and reliability, greater cooling capacities at lower operating speeds, precise temperature control, ease of use and service and unsurpassed quality in every unit.

“T-Series is an all new line of self-powered truck units destined to become the new industry benchmark,” states ThermoKing’s Peter Lawrence. “Our competitive advantage lies in the fact that not only does the new T-Series cover a complete range to suit almost all refrigerated transport applications, but ThermoKing is also the only manufacturer to provide customers with an option of the latest in compressor technology.”

The T-Series is offered with a choice of either traditional reciprocating piston or advanced open-drive scroll compressor technology. Both forms provide specific advantages for particular applications to satisfy customer requirements and preferences.

The reciprocating design uses ThermoKing’s proven and highly efficient piston compressor technology to transfer refrigerant into and out of the cylinder in two distinct stages, namely induction and compression. The induction stage expends much less energy than does the subsequent compression stage, but does not add refrigerant flow into the system.

Alternatively, scroll compressor technology has far fewer moving parts and operates via two closely mating scrolls, one fixed and the other rotating within it. Looking something like a spiral labyrinth, the design of this system creates a series of spaces between the two interlocking scrolls which progressively reduce in size as they are repositioned closer to the shared centre port by the motion of the orbiting scroll. By the time the compressed refrigerant gets to the middle, the process has already started again several times from the outside, resulting in a smooth and continuous flow as several compressions occur simultaneously.

Also setting new industry benchmarks is the powerful and simple to use TSR-2 control system, making it easier for drivers to accurately manage the temperature in the truck no matter what product is being hauled. Step-by-step instructions, depicted in symbolic form, make precise setting and adjusting of the system quick and easy.

“Reducing operating costs of the equipment was the prime criterion in the development of these new units,” Peter Lawrence stresses. “Advanced fuel-saving control technology incorporated in the new TSR-2 controller helps ensure the correct temperature is set quickly and easily for every load. This attribute of the T-Series will help transport operators realise reduced operating costs every day it is run for the life of the unit.”

The T-Series was developed to take advantage of the latest fuel-saving technologies, including SmartPowerTM electric operation when stationary. Also, ThermoKing offers an extended recommended service interval of 2000 hours for these units, along with its longest ever warranty.

“The units have been engineered for greater fuel economy in all ambient conditions, whether hauling fresh or frozen goods,” Peter says. “The ETV (electronic throttling valve) in selected models pulls down temperature faster which equates to less fuel consumed in reaching set-point temperature.

“The T-Series was developed not just to meet environmental requirements, but to set new benchmarks in the reductions of emissions, waste and noise pollution. The SmartPowerTM stationary electric operation produces zero emissions while WhisperTM quiet on-road operation is provided by the cleanest diesel engine in its class. The 2000 hour extended maintenance interval reduces waste in the form of oil and filters and poly-V quiet belt technology reduces noise pollution.

“With all of these advances combined into a stylish, fresh package, the new T-Series is set to once more confirm ThermoKing’s global leadership in transport refrigeration for years to come,” Lawrence concludes.
