The 'big one' moves to the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre

Organisers of the Queensland Truck and Machinery Show, the Commercial Vehicle Industry Association of Queensland (CVIAQ) have announced that the 2011 and future shows will be held at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre (BCEC).

CVIAQ president Bob Martin of JOST Australia announced: “The CVIAQ has taken the step to move the iconic Queensland Truck & Machinery Show to Australia’s premier convention and exhibition centre, the BCEC, to further strengthen the show’s position as our industry’s premier event. The industry is now ready for this move forward into a world class venue and we look forward to taking Australia’s best heavy vehicle and component manufacturers onto the world stage. We can confirm the 2011 event will be held at the BCEC on the 5th- 8th May 2011.”

Having recently assessed the long term redevelopment of the RNA Showgrounds the CVIAQ Board of Directors unanimously moved to take the legendary Brisbane show to the BCEC and enter a new stage of its long and proud history stretching back to 1968.

“The RNA Showgrounds has served our industry well for the last 25 years but the time has come to locate to a venue which offers total all-weather protection, the most professional convention and meeting room facilities, and walking distance access to the best hotels and restaurants within Brisbane’s CBD and South Bank precinct,” said CVIAQ CEO Brett Wright.

“It’s simply not good enough in the 21st century that our industry looks to the heavens and prays for fine weather every time we hold an event at a showground - be it Brisbane or elsewhere. The BCEC is recognised as Australia’s premier convention and exhibition centre, in the top three in the world, and the only venue in Australia worthy of our industry’s premier event.

“The CVIAQ Board, consisting of industry leaders elected by their peers, has listened to the feedback from our leading manufacturers and has responded emphatically with their decision to relocate to the BCEC. The CVIAQ remains committed to retaining the legendary atmosphere and characteristics of the show but at a superior venue for exhibitors and visitors alike.” added CEO Brett Wright.

The clear advantages over any showground in Australia are obvious and compelling:
  • Full undercover exhibition facility with the most efficient layout maximising exhibitor space while reducing the overall footprint. Available exhibition space is comparable with the largest showgrounds but with superior layout and facilities.
  • Fully air-conditioned complex.
  • Unparalleled exhibitor contractor access and facilities for site construction.
  • Dozens of professional meeting, seminar and function rooms to cater from 20 to 2,000 people.
The BCEC provides undercover parking for 1,500 vehicles, with direct lift access to the centre's convention and exhibition facilities. QPAC, Queensland Museum and South Bank car parks offer an additional 2,000 undercover car parks within easy 2-minute walking distance of the venue. South Bank Railway station and South Brisbane Bus terminal are located immediately behind and adjacent the BCEC and offer unrivalled access for visitors.

The world-famous South Bank precinct located on the banks of the Brisbane River is the ideal hub for the show and the quintessential location for media launches, corporate events, client functions and entertaining featuring attractions such as the Queensland Art Gallery, Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) and the Queensland Museum and Maritime Museum to name but a few highlights.

President Bob Martin summed up: “CVIAQ is excited to announce this decision which has been in the making for many years. The industry is ready, and therefore the CVIAQ is also ready to enter a new and exciting chapter in our show’s history.”
