New head for Damco NZ

Damco has announced the appointment of Willie van Heusden as managing director for its New Zealand operations. In this role, Mr van Heusden will oversee all aspects of the logistics and freight forwarding business.

On his new appointment, Mr van Heusden said: “I was seeking a global challenge in a multinational company and I found the best opportunity in joining Damco, one of the world’s most promising logistics providers with an ambitious growth plan in Asia Pacific.

“As a supply chain consultant for more than 10 years, I know many organisations are looking for ways to reduce logistics costs. Through supply chain optimisation, Damco’s supply chain development consultants identified USD 117 million savings for global customers in 2009. I am certain that with our team’s dedication, sophisticated models and customised solutions, we can continue to deliver greater savings for our customers to ensure business profitability.”

Van Heusden joins Damco from Schenker NZ Ltd where he was general manager of its Auckland operations from 2000-2007. Since then he has been active in supply chain consultancy. He is also the current president of Customs Brokers and Freight Forwarders Association in New Zealand.

Tony Hotine, chief executive of Damco Asia Pacific said: “As president of the Customs Brokers and Freight Forwarders Association and a frequent speaker at trade conferences, Willie is an active member of the local industry and has a thorough understanding of its challenges. His knowledge and expertise will increase Damco’s capabilities to deliver the best solutions that meet our customers’ needs.”
