AusWA joins international federation

The Australian Warehousing Association has become a full financial member of the International Federation of Warehousing and Logistic Associations (IFWLA).

At the recent IFWLA International Council meeting held in Vancouver, Canada in May 2010, Australia was endorsed by International Council and welcomed to the Association by Jerry Wright, international president.

“With Australia becoming a member of IFWLA, the opportunity to develop global networks, have knowledge of particular countries’ business and trade rules, industry trends and application of technology is a real benefit,” said AusWA national president Bill Henman.

The federation comprises 18 countries including Australia, Canada, China, Chinese Taipei, Cyprus, France, India, Iran, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Latvia, Mauritius, Ukraine, United Kingdom, USA and Vietnam. IFWLA is a not-for-profit association that was developed over 30 years ago to fill the need for a truly international organisation comprising businesses that are responsible for the warehousing and distribution industry globally.

Each year IFWLA hosts a warehousing logistics industry convention in a different region of the world. This year, the event was held in Vancouver, Canada from 2-5 May 2010. The conference provided member countries with a unique opportunity to explore different business models, experience cultural venues and develop business connections.

In conjunction with the May 2010 International Council Meeting, the Canadian IFWLA hosted a three-day conference with excellent speakers from leaders of global industry as well as the Canadian and American Governments. To facilitate communication and discussion, these presentations were translated from English into four languages.

Each year an international conference is held in an IFWLA member country, with Taiwan being nominated the 2011 host. The organising committee has developed a draft plan for the conference and will confirm date and location early 2011.
