Woolworths home improvement store thwarted in Victoria, approved in Queensland
The Woolworths and Lowe's partnership has selected Ipswich in Queensland for one of its first home improvement stores, after a land deal in Bendigo, Victoria fell through.
Construction will commence on the Springfield Central site soon, and the store will open in the second half of 2011. The retailer expects to create over 170 jobs at the site.
The 12,500sqm store will be built on the Orion Town Centre site at Springfield Central.
In the meantime, plans for a new hardware store in Bendigo have been temporarily put on hold.
A commercial deal to buy land in Bendigo for the proposed hardware superstore has fallen through, but the company is still keen to establish a presence in the town.
