RedR Australia's Humanitarian Logistics in Emergencies course focuses on the importance of logistics in the provision of aid to disaster survivors as well as its place in carrying out other disaster management operations.

WHEN:  05/10/2010 to 10/10/2010

WHERE:  Dookie, Victoria

STATE:  VIC

COUNTRY:  AUS

RedR Australia’s Humanitarian Logistics in Emergencies course, to be held from 5-10 September 2010 at Dookie in Victoria, focuses on the importance of logistics in the provision of aid to disaster survivors as well as its place in carrying out other disaster management operations.

RedR Australia is a humanitarian organisation whose mission is to relieve suffering in disasters by selecting, training and providing competent and effective relief personnel to humanitarian relief agencies worldwide.

Although mostly concerned with the movement of goods and equipment,
humanitarian logistics also encompasses the relocation of disaster-affected people, transfer of casualties, and the movement of relief workers.

The course examines the design of logistics systems and the coordination required by the various agencies and actors involved in implementing the system and carrying out the operation. The course is supported by experts in humanitarian (UN/NGO/INGO) and commercial logistics (DHL and Toll Logistics). Participants have the opportunity to visit the site of a large commercial logistics operation.

Content is an introduction to humanitarian logistics therefore it is suited to a wide audience. However, experienced logisticians will benefit from the broader application of logistics to conflict and refugee situations, building a knowledge bridge for deployment to humanitarian crises.
