Queensland offers 2 x $50,000 freight innovation grants

The Queensland Transport and Logistics Council in partnership with the Department of Transport and Main Roads is offering two (2) grants of up to $50,000 to encourage the identification, trialling and evaluation of innovative practices that can be applied across the freight industry.

The FreightSmart grants program aims to encourage and support Queensland-based industry in identifying, trialling and evaluating innovative freight practices with the objective of reducing urban congestion and minimising greenhouse gas emissions, through delivering a more efficient and effective freight network.

The grants program is established under the FreightSmart initiative, as part of the Queensland Government’s strategy ClimateQ: toward a greener Queensland, which contributes to the Queensland Government’s Toward Q2: Tomorrow’s Queensland green target of reducing Queenslanders’ carbon footprint by one-third through reduced car and electricity use.

The FreightSmart grants program offers dollar-for-dollar grants and is available state-wide. The grants program seeks innovative proposals specific to the freight industry that are unique or previously untested. Proposals considered for the grants will be those that can be applied across the industry, that have the greatest potential to lessen the impact of urban congestion on freight and vice versa, and which could also have climate change benefits.

Proposals must have a measurable outcome, including baseline data. Examples of proposals might include off-peak or collaborative freight deliveries, or freight consolidation. Proposals are to be submitted by 24 September 2010.

Further information about the FreightSmart grants program can be obtained by telephoning Ms Nicki Milios, Secretary, Queensland Transport and Logistics Council on (07) 3306 7432, or via www.qtlc.com.au.

All correspondence should be forwarded to admin@qtlc.com.au or by post: FreightSmart grants program, PO Box 16091, City East QLD 4002
