All about Intelligent Transport Systems

More than 60 leading Australian and international transport and technology experts will address the second Australian Intelligent Transport Systems Summit to be held 20 to 22 September 2011 on Queensland's Gold Coast.

Under the theme ‘Strategy into Action’, summit sessions will address issues ranging from technology updates to standards, and to the economic and public benefit debates surrounding the application of new Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) technologies.

ITS Australia President Dr Norm Pidgeon said the purpose of the summit is to progress industry input to a strategy for Australia's national ITS development. "This summit will address private, public and commercial transport in the road and rail sectors," he said.

"The full range of topical ITS issues being addressed currently in Australian are on this program. We have selected speakers that will bring the latest thinking and differing points of view to this summit.

"As a pioneer of many ITS technologies and successful national application of those technologies, Australia is ideally placed to integrate ITS systems across its transport networks to improve both the safety and productivity of existing infrastructure, and to better plan future ITS investments.

"We want all ITS stakeholders in Australia to be represented at this Summit to help define the way forward," he said.

Hosted by the Queensland Government, the 2011 Australian ITS Summit is structured as a working session. After the information sharing session on day one, delegates will be contributing creative ideas in workshops on day two.

Summit delegates will learn from presentations by people recognised as global experts, who work with state of the art technologies and application policies.
