Patrick secures half a million containers from MSC


Asciano has re-signed Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) on a new five-year container terminals contract, which will see Patrick handle half-a-million containers nationwide in the first year.
 
The new agreement commences on 1 January 2012, with MSC having the right of early termination at the end of year three.
 
Asciano chief executive officer and managing director John Mullen said: “The successful completion of another agreement with our long-term customer MSC
will see our Patrick operations handle approximately 550,000 containers nationally for MSC in the first year of the agreement.
 
“The renewed partnership with MSC is reflective of our real commitment to deliver
improved customer service at our four container terminals in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Fremantle.
 
Asciano has on order a total of nine new post-Panamax quay cranes for its container terminals that will be delivered over the next  18 months. Patrick is also investing significant further capital in additional quayline and port capacity, pavement upgrades, straddles, and other handling equipment.
