New 18 tonne fork truck from Crown

Crown has released its new 18 tonne lift truck, the CDV180S-7, marking the company’s entry into the heavyweight league. With more power claimed than any other comparable IC vehicle, and a 1,200 mm load centre, the CDV180S-7 is expected to be well received by customers needing high levels of capability and capacity.

Companies operating in industries such as timber yards, mines, steel mills, paper merchants, as well as importers and exporters of heavy products will find the CDV180S-7 brings new features and specifications to the range of lift truck options available to them.

“The introduction of the CDV180S-7 is a major move by Crown, giving us entry into a whole new market segment,” said Craig Kenchington, general manager marketing, Crown Equipment. “As with all our trucks, we have invested heavily in both time and money to ensure that we once again bring advancements to the lift truck industry.”

The CDV180S-7 features a new generation Tier 3 electronic control 254 HP 7.6l diesel engine that provides high torque at low revs, reduces fuel consumption, and meets or exceeds current environmental requirements. This is matched by advanced synchronisation of the drive train with the vehicle’s hydraulics system.

Rated with a 1,200 mm load centre, it has a capacity that is almost double what most 16 tonne units can lift at a 600 mm load centre.

The operator’s environment is also advanced. The driver cabin has a centrally positioned heated leather seat that gives a clear, uninterrupted view of the forks. Heating and cooling comes through separate air conditioning and heating ducts for the dash and the roof, as well as an efficient defrosting nozzle for the front window. The dash is fitted with both digital and analogue instrument panels, as well as a technically advanced sound system.

Additional features of the CDV180S-7 include a rear view camera, distance-measuring infrared camera, wheel steering sensors, weight scales and an air compressor for general cleaning and maintenance of the driver’s seat and foot well.

Operating the CDV180S-7 is made easy with all controls ergonomically located and with six roller bearings giving speed and precision to the lifting process.

Ease of maintenance has also been designed and built into the CDV180S-7, with a tilting cabin and hood system, centralised fuse and relay box, centralised steering axle grease inlet and conveniently located control valve.

“This is a seriously well designed and manufactured vehicle for seriously heavy work. We believe that the CDV180S-7 will set significant new benchmarks in terms of lift capacity, operator comfort, operational efficiency and ease of maintenance in its sector. Backed with our driver training and service offerings, this will be a hard choice to go past,” said Mr Kenchington.
