FLOW: The Freight and Logistics Optimisation Workshop

FLOW is an intensive one-day workshop on the use of advanced analytic and computerised methods for optimising freight transport and logistics operations. The workshop is a joint initiative between CSIRO and the Logistics Association of Australia (LAA).

The Logistics Association of Australia (LAA) and CSIRO are proud to present the second Freight Logistics Optimisation Workshop - FLOW.

FLOW is a one-day workshop on the use of advanced analytic and computerised methods for optimising freight transport and logistics operations.

The first FLOW workshop, held in Melbourne in July 2011, received unanimous praise from participants.

FLOW gives transport and logistics professionals the opportunity to mix with scientific leaders at the cutting edge of optimisation technology developments and applications. Only a basic mathematical knowledge will be assumed. The main pre-requisite is enthusiasm for taking your freight and logistics operations to a new level of efficiency and performance.

The workshop features tutorials with national and international experts, as well as structured discussion sessions on transport and logistics topics.

Each tutorial addresses a different aspect of freight transport and logistics optimisation, and incorporates case studies of optimisation technology adoption by leading freight and logistics organisations in Australia and overseas:
  • Professor Martin Savelsbergh (University of Newcastle) - Truckload and Less-Than-Truckload Transportation Optimisation.
  • Dr Philip Kilby (NICTA: National ICT Australia) - Optimised vehicle fleet management and routing.
  • Dr Simon Dunstall (CSIRO) - Network optimisation for bulk freight and service delivery.
  • Dr Gaurav Singh (CSIRO) – Planning and scheduling for bulk freight.
FLOW also incorporates case study presentations by selected organisations that offer technologies and consulting services relevant to the tutorials.

The workshop is limited to 20 participants. Book early as places fill fast! Each participant is offered the opportunity to nominate an area of most interest to their business, have it formulated as a case study for use within the interactive sessions, and receive on-the-spot advice and follow-up by the researchers.

Who should attend?
Transport and logistics professionals with a strong interest in optimisation technologies.

Cost:
A$300 (including GST) regular fee for FLOW participants.
A$270 (including GST) discounted fee for LAA members.

Registration
Registration includes:
  • FLOW intensive one-day workshop on Thursday 16 February 2012.
  • Full catering during the workshop.
  • A bound book of tutorial studies and notes, with over 100 pages of information on technologies and real-world applications.
