Amazon targets China, India for growth


Online retailer Amazon.com will establish a logistics centre in the south western Chinese city of Nanning and its first logistics centre in Mumbai, India, reports Analytiqa.
 
In China, Amazon has come to an agreement with the Economic and Technological Development Zone in Nanning to build a distribution centre in the city, capital of Guangxi Zhuang region.
 
The 50,000 m2 logistics facility will cost an estimated 600 million yuan (US$95.0 million) and will be built on a 22 ha site.
 
In India, Amazon is said to be looking to establish its first DC. According to recruitment adverts placed on Amazon’s website, the logistics facility is to be based in Mumbai.
 
Amazon already has software development centres in Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad, and a customer-service centre in Hyderabad.
 
Indian customers can buy products from other Amazon websites (particularly in the UK) and have the items shipped to them, but it does not yet have a dedicated Indian online retail business.
