For the first time, businesses across Australia can access Mecalux mobile storage systems.
With recent installations by Safer Storage Systems of Mecalux automated and semi-automated pallet racking, Australia is now added to the list of more than 70 countries where Mecalux is distributed.
Mecalux is among the top three steel racking manufacturers in the world. The Spain-based storage specialists focus on automated systems for the reception, storage and outbound operations of palletised or boxed items.
The mechanical storage products are designed to increase and optimise warehouses by reducing the storage footprint and automating the product handling process. This means high-volume storage can be achieved in a range of warehouse sizes and conditions, including freezer room temperatures.
By enhancing the performance, safety and profitability of the warehouse, businesses see a greater return on investment, making Mecalux systems a very cost-effective option for large or small storage spaces.
The Mecalux Pallet Shuttle system, recently installed in a new Sydney distribution centre, allows the storage of three different sized pallets using the FIFO system (first in, first out) or LIFO system (last in, first out). Warehouse operators can interchangeably use the pallet that best suits their storage needs, and easily switch between FIFO and LIFO storage methods using the intuitive tablet controls.
The large, 20,000sqm Sydney warehouse required an area of high-density storage that also allowed for maximum selectivity for the business’s varied stock profiles. The scalable Pallet Shuttle system can be adapted to accommodate non-standard pallet sizes should it be required as the business continues to grow.
With smart electronic Shuttles that pick up pallets from the front of the aisles, a forklift never needs to enter the system, saving time and preventing a collision with the racking. The Shuttle then travels along the aisles of the system, where it enters, positions and extracts the appropriate pallet or carton based on instructions entered into the tablet controls.
As fewer warehouse operators are required to operate the system and less time is spent loading and unloading pallets, the cost of warehouse management is reduced and safety is increased significantly.
The Mecalux Movirack system, recently installed in a purpose-built storage area for an FMCG company in Melbourne, allows selective racking in a deep storage application. The racking is installed across a mobile base so that each bay can glide across to access the appropriate pallet space, eliminating the need for individual aisle spaces.
The aisle to be accessed is selected by remote control or by manually flicking a switch allowing direct access to any item in stock. An exterior safety sensor detects when a pedestrian or forklift has entered the open aisle and cuts power to the system, protecting operators while working inside the system.
The electronic system was selected in this project for its compatibility with cold storage environments. The state-of-the-art system is not affected by low temperatures and, with a smaller storage footprint, it offers considerable savings in energy consumption as a smaller area is required to be cooled.
The Movirack system can be tailored to small or large warehouse spaces to maximise the storage capacity, and can also be implemented for cantilever applications.
