DB Schenker Australia is continuing its strategic consolidation of facilities for key logistics customers in Australia, with a massive new logistics hub being developed in Yennora.
Following the new set-up for the state of Victoria, Sydney operations will now be streamlined in a new logistics hub located in Yennora that is strategically located on the rail line spur connecting it to the main Sydney-to-Melbourne and Sydney-to-Brisbane railway and Port Botany.
When fully developed, the new warehouse and distribution centre will provide a link between the economies of rural and regional Australia and the global economy. The unique location of Yennora offers the potential to feed freight into the interstate rail freight terminal. By integrating road and rail transport, Schenker Australia will be able to reduce road transport and the number of trucks in the currently congested Sydney metro area.
Ron Koehler, CEO of Schenker Australia Pty Ltd said “shifting some freight consignments from road to rail will not only help to relieve traffic on Sydney’s busy roads, more importantly, rail compared to road reduces carbon dioxide emissions and increases road safety. Over the past year, Schenker Australia has initiated many activities that not only improve our operational processes but also prove to be environmentally responsible.”
The state-of-the-art facility consists of two buildings with 20,000 square metres and 12,000 square metres respectively, joined by a 3,800 square-metre breezeway, allowing for 100% undercover operation from goods arrival to despatch. Some of the notable features of the site include 13 meter high roofing, 27 rear loading docks, nine roller door access, ample truck hard stand area, etc., allowing for a seamless flow of goods from receiving to shipping in a fully integrated and IT solutions-enabled hub.
The site has also been fitted with a state of the art Security System comprising of full access control, alarm, monitoring and 24X7 CCTV coverage.
