Un-leaded feet save fuel

A new program to be launched in collaboration with the Australian Logistics Council, with the support to date of Linfox and Woolworths, offers fuel savings up of 15 per cent.

The global financial crisis, climate change and rising fuel costs represent a clear threat for commercial road transport operators in Australia. ‘Eco-Drive for Commercial Vehicles’ has been developed to assist transport operators achieve fuel efficiencies, driving down costs and reducing harmful greenhouse gas emissions.

‘Eco-Drive for Commercial Vehicles’ is an e-learning program providing fuel efficiency education specifically designed for the commercial road transport sector. The program has been designed by e-learning specialists, Andromeda, in conjunction with industry leaders. Eco-Drive has the official endorsement of the Australian Logistics Council (Australia’s umbrella body for freight, responsible for advocating solutions of strategic importance to the industry) and has confirmed participation from road freight industry leaders, Linfox, plus formal support from Woolworths.

The importance of this fuel efficiency program cannot be underestimated, for road transport operators and for the environment. In the current economic climate, the green agenda in 2009 will be strongly focused on the tried and tested environmental strategy of energy reduction and cost savings. By applying simple lessons in driving efficiency, already tested and proven by the industry, ‘Eco-Drive for Commercial Vehicles’ offers the opportunity to save up to 15% in fuel savings, significantly easing some pressure of the economic slowdown.

Andromeda and the Australian Logistics Council are committed to launching ‘Eco-Drive’ as an industry-wide initiative. With full penetration of the road transport industry in Australia, ‘Eco-Drive’ has the potential to wipe off 1% of Australia’s total greenhouse gas emissions each year (or 4.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent per annum).

Additional participants in the program will be announced, alongside Linfox, at the Australian Logistics Forum on the 13th February. This announcement will be a significant demonstration of the commitment of the road transport industry to the important goal of emissions reduction in Australia.
